Sweet victory in Chess

Last Friday I beat my friend Mayakovsky in Chess. I played with black pieces, the game took one hour, and I lost only one piece (bishop). My friend lost three pieces: one knight and two pawns. It was a quite high-quality and peaceful game. No stupid moves at all. Finally, I did checkmate with the queen (h1) and knight (d4) and pawn (g3). The white king has no place to escape. (See the photos below.) Ah, that felt good! Hahaha.

Me and my chess opponent Mayakovsky (nickname), we are equally good in Chess. This time it was "my turn" to win. Usually our game takes 70-90 minutes. The battle is never too easy nor relaxing. That's why we don't play so often. Hehe. By the way, I bought this chessboard from Leningrad, Soviet Union (the current name: Saint Petersburg, Russia) in 1989. Chess has been my favorite game since my childhood.

  1. Chess.. ahhh Chess.. Game of the intellects! Me, I prefer Snakes and Ladders wahaha!
I have this really weird knack to play Chinese chess tho'.. altho I could not read the letters and require someone to set the pieces for me in the begining. Once all those pieces are in place, I'd know how to move them! And I win.. I almost always win! People can't believe I do not read, or write Chinese hehe (-^_^-;) I know.. really, REALLY weird!
    A Russian Chesse set, Tembo-san..! -^^-

    1. Hiya, Michiko-chan.
Again, thank you for your nice comment. ^^ Oh, you have such a weird knack to play Chinese chess?? Wow, I didn't know that! You must be a "natural talent" then! :D By the way: guess do I share my LOSSES here? Hehe. No no, nopedi nope! Only VICTORIES. It is better for my image as the "intelligent man"... Hahaha. :D

    2. Michiko-san just mentioned the Chinese chess, and you know what, I think I'm more confident in it than the (Western) chess. When I was in college many years ago, I could actually win some games when playing Chinese chess! There are quite a few similarities between Chinese chess and chess, but I think it's easier to see the next move you're supposed to take when playing Chinese chess. To me, in chess, the chessboard is more complicated and harder to see clearly the whole picture. :) Thank you guys for sharing something about the two kinds of fun games. :)

    3. You're welcome, Bao, and thank YOU for sharing your experiences as well. :) For my part, I'm not familiar with Chinese chess at all. I play so little and only few games. One of my favorite is also 'Afrikan tähti' (meaning "the star of Africa"). It is nice and old-fashioned Finnish board game, very popular in Finland. A thrilling but easy. Cheers! :)

  2. Ha ha, I also love chess, but I'm not good at it. I used to be my son's chess teacher, so probably he's the only person I can beat. :) Usually I don't play with real people, most of the time I play with computer opponents, and I lost most of the time! Congratulations on your win!

    1. Hello Bao,
Thanks a lot for your nice comment. Aiyaa, you love chess too! And you play against the computer? Wow. I used to do that for many years ago. I usually won all games on the first three levels, but after that: not any wins... Computer won always. *sigh* I was so frustrated that I deleted the whole program. Hahaha. :D For me, humane opponent is the best - not too perfect... (^_~)
