Kun ohi on elonaika

I wrote a little poem, this time in the Finnish language (sorry, it's much easier for me, more natural). English title of the poem is When the Harvest is Over. This poem is a bit melancholic and it's inspired by these Bible verses: "You who are my comforter in sorrow, my heart is faint within me. – The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved" (Jeremiah 8:18, 20; in Finnish: "Missä on virvoitus minun murheeseeni? Minun sydämeni on sairas. – Ohi on elonaika, lopussa kesä, mutta ei ole meille apua tullut").

Tämä runo kertoo kaipuusta, kesän loppumisesta ja siitä, ettei voi olla sen luona, jota sydän halajaa. Japanilainen kirjailija Yasushi Inoue on sanonut, että "kärsimys on poissaoloa kaiken sen luota, josta pitää" (in English: "Suffering is the absence from all that you like").

And here is the poem:

Kun ohi on elonaika
syksyn tummenneen taivaan alla
vihdoin onnellisina
kohtaamme toisemme siellä,
kulkien rahisevalla kylätiellä
ilman kiirettä ja huolta.

The English translation:

When the harvest is over
under the darkening autumn sky
finally we will happily
face each other there,
walking on the country road
without hurry and worry.

  2. Hi Teisuka,

Sorry for taking so long for me to visit your blog again. I like your poem, very simple yet pretty philosophical, right? Haha....I especially like the last two lines -- "walking on the country road without hurry and worry." I really can relate to this. I feel that in the world today, most people are just too busy with their lives, they just rush through their lives without really stopping to enjoy the moment and the scenery in front of their eyes. Maybe I'm just one of them, with too much anxiety and worries. Right now I've become more mindful in some way, always trying to tell myself to slow down and live in the moment.

So the summer has ended, hope you had a great one. Now it's the autumn, and your favorite season -- the winter -- is not far away. Hope you enjoy each and every day and find more love and blessings in your life.

Thank you for sharing the nice poem. It seems that everything is really going well for you. I'm happy for you. May you lead an even more fruitful life under the guidance of God.

    Have a great weekend! Cheers!

    1. Hello Bao,

Thanks for visiting here and for your nice comment, my dear friend. I hope all is well with you. Thank you for liking my poem. Yes, it's a philosophical and also quite melancholic, but there is a happy end. I feel the same as you, that in the world today, most people are just too busy with their lives. It's good to slow down and stop for a while and look around. Speaking for myself, I need a woman and love that I can do that. Haha. :) Carpe diem or "seize the day" is a good advice. We always need to remind ourselves for that.

Well, to be honest, my summer wasn't happy and great at all. Thanks God it's over now. Haha. See, I had no any holidays, just too much work and troubles and stress... Now the winter is coming, fortunately for me. I hope better days are coming. You know, my friend, that always everything is not going so well...

Anyway, I wish all the best to both of us. And I remember you and your family in my prayers, you can be sure for that. Be well and take good care of yourself, my dear friend. Have a wonderful week – and cheers! :)
