Easter Gifts from Russia

A wooden Matryoshka doll, height 17 cm.

Matryoshka set in a row. One Matryoshka includes a set of
wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other.

I've been a little bit sick for the past few days. That's why my Easter update is late – but better late than never. I regret that I did not have the opportunity to visit Church this Easter at all. >< Here is no Orthodox Church in my city. The closest church is quite far, in Vaasa. So this was very different Easter to me. In the spiritual sense, my Easter was a poor. I haven't "skipped" the Easter Church for years...

On the other hand, my Easter was a very rich. Before that setback, I had a very pleasant surprise last week. I received two (!) huge parcels from my dear Russian friend Nika!

The parcels included many kinds of beautiful items: Matryoshka doll, two porcelain icons, three Russian T-shirts, a dark Russian chocolate, chocolate fondant, traditional Khokhloma folk art (a painted wooden bowl, scoop, and cutting board), a Matryoshka pencil (crayon), stickers for Easter eggs and decorative stand for Easter eggs, a refrigerator magnets, Moscow postcards, Easter bags, keychain(s), a cute oven mitten... (Please see the pictures on this article.)

Wow – so many lovely gifts that made me happy! Thank you very much, my dear Nikushka! Большое спасибо, ангел мой! (^—^)You are too kind to me. I feel that I have not deserved this... You yourself are Heaven's gift to me – a real treasure! ♥

Still a few things about Easter. Finland's Orthodox Christians mark Easter on the Western date, and this year it was April 5. Most of the Orthodox churches base their Easter date on the Julian calendar, which differs from the Gregorian calendar. So, for example Russian people will celebrate Easter on 12 April. Belated Easter greetings to all my friends! And I'm going to celebrate another Easter together with Nika. Праздником Пасхи! ^^

P.S. A Prayer Request. A father of a dear friend of mine is a very seriously ill. It's a horrible disaster and shock to this family! Life is so unexpected, indeed, and that's why it's very valuable, too. I request all my friends to pray for my friend's father. May God ease his suffering, and may God heal him! We all should to remember this: Cherish your loved ones as long as you have them!

Two porcelain Orthodox icons.

Matryoshka pencil (crayon), a refrigerator magnets(Muscovite church, Gagarin, Putin),
cute keychains, e.g. The Olympic Mishka, and wonderful Khokhloma folk art.

Stickers for Easter eggs and decorative stand for Eastereggs (all this has a pattern of
traditional Russian crafts).

Moscow postcards and a cute oven mitten.

A chocolate fondant and a dark chocolate with a specific taste, 72 % cocoa.
It is very high-quality chocolate called «Победа» (English: "Victory").

These days, Putin T-shirt is trending worldwide. It is very cool
and I am proud to own it. :)

A beautiful Gagarin T-shirt. Gagarin was a Russian Soviet cosmonaut,
and the first human to journey into outer space in 1961.

One more T-shirt with the slogan "I love Russia" – and so I do! ^^

    1. Hello Shawn,

Many thanks for visiting here and for your great comment. I really appreciate it, my friend. Yes, it is always Christmas or Easter time with Nika. Haha. :D And that's great, because I mostly love winter and the Easter season. This year Nika really made my Easter. ^^

I'm glad to hear you like Matryoshka dolls, too. Yeah, they are truly lovely and amazing toys, and reminds a Japanese Daruma doll (だるま). I think both are equally old traditions.

Thank you for your good wishes and prayers regarding our mutual friend! Let's hope the best – amen! And for you too, Shawn, I wish all the best and blessings! Again, thank you for being here today. :)

Greetings from windy but sunny Finland,

  3. Hi Teisuka,

Thank you for sharing this very interesting blog article. Wow...these gifts were really heartwarming. Nika is really an angel with such a loving heart. I'm happy for you. May God continuously bless her and you! You definitely deserve these gifts because you're also a nice person with a great heart! You are very thoughtful and considerate, and you deserve the best from life! -:)

Sorry to learn that you were sick several days ago. Hope you've fully recovered by now. And also please accept my belated Easter greetings. But according to the Russian calendar, I'm just in time for the greetings. Haha...hope you will enjoy this holiday.

Please don't feel bad about failing to go to church during the Easter holiday. It's our hearts that really count, I think. A long as we have faith in Him in our hearts, we are glorifying Him. And in return, He will bless us!

My friend, hope you are enjoying the spring season right now! Wish you all best in everything!

    Cheers,
    Bao

    1. Hi Bao,

Thank you so much for your kind words, good wishes, and blessings to Nika and me. It made me glad and I really appreciate it, my friend! "Nika is really an angel with such a loving heart." Amen for this. :) I hope I am worth of it.

Thanks for your belated Easter greetings. Same to you, my friend, please accept my belated Easter greetings! :) I hope you had a good Easter and all is well in your life.

Yes, Russian Easter is still going on. Tonight we (Nika and I) will greet each other with this Paschal greeting: One says "Христос Воскресе!" (Christ is risen!), and then another of us replies: "Воистину Воскресе!" (Truly, He is risen!). After that three kisses... Haha. This is our old tradition on the Easter night. :)

You're right, faith is in our heart, even though we have no always opportunity to visit Church. By the way, regarding the prayer request in my article: I hope you could also pray for this person. She is our mutual friend... rìběn péngyǒu, you know... and now her father is very seriously ill. We all must pray that God could heal him and give him more time.

You too, enjoy your spring season, Mr. Bao. I wish all the best and blessings to you and your family. Be well and take good care of yourself, my dear friend! :)

      Blessings from Finland and Russia,

      Teisuka

    2. Hi Teisuka,

Thank you for reminding me about praying for our mutual friend. From her comments and videos I knew that she is going through something very difficult, but I didn't realize that he father is seriously ill. I will definitely pray for her, and I will write her a personal email to comfort and encourage her within the next few days.

Thanks again, my friend. May you enjoy the new week! -:)
