Winter Walk With My Camera

I like walking, it's almost like a hobby for me. Sometimes "I like to walk with my camera" too, quoting the slogan of my dear friend who engages in photography. Actually, I promised her many weeks ago to take some landscape photos from my city located in Western Finland. So here we go. I'm a little late, but better later than never, right? ( ̄ー ̄)

I took these pictures on January 20th (2013) at the park near my home. It is one of my favorite places here. Weather was really nice: a lot of snow and sunshine, and temperature was -8 °C or 17.6 °F. I really love winter like this. (^—^)

The last photo is older. It is taken in December 2010 from my backyard.

(Click the pictures to see them bigger.)

P.S. The "soundtrack of my life" these days is Schubert's Winterreise ("Winter Journey"), a song cycle for (baritone) voice and piano. It is one of my favorite classical works, and every winter I'm listening to it numerous of times. You can listen to it here.

Frosty winter scene from my balcony (I live in a
4th floor). The frozen trees looks great. At that
time temperature was between -20 °C / -30 °C.

  1. Hi Teisuka,
Nice pictures! Yeah, there was really lots of sunshine, but it was cold! Ha ha...to you it was not that cold, right? -:) You are definitely more used to cold weather than I'm. Taking a walk is a fun thing to do, but I haven't done so during this winter. I'm afraid of cold weather, and it looks like I haven't recovered from a cold I caught in December. I still cough, though not that serious. It kind of bothers me.

I especially like the last picture showing your backyard. It's so beautiful, like a fairyland. -:) Your area is definitely a different world from mine. Here, 30°F is considered very cold. I suppose in your area, this can be called "warm" weather in winter. Anyway, I'm glad that you like the area where you live. I think it can be called one of your biggest blessings. -:) Right now is the Chinese New Year's eve (It's already New Year's Day in China), but it does not feel like New Year at all here in NYC (except Chinatown). I really miss the new year atmosphere in China.

Hope everything is OK with you, my friend. Also hope you are enjoying your weekend and will have a great week ahead of you!

    1. Hi Bao,

Many thanks for visiting and for your kind message. :) Hope your cough is over already. Yes, you're right: 30°F is warm weather here. Haha. Right now here is -3 °C (26 ºF) and last night was heavy snowing. Landscapes are very beautiful.

Happy Chinese New Year to you, my friend! I hope you could find a "real China atmosphere" there in New York City!! :)

      Blessings,

    1. Hello "G2kdlj",

Thanks for visiting and for your nice comment. Yes, this park is very peaceful place, even though here lives almost 60.000 people in my city.

  4. HI forn Canada: Just recently came across your Teresa Teng selection... great.... in many respects. I am currently learning Mandarin so the pinyin translations were a welcome. That was on your old site with your many videos.... so i hope you are up and running on your new site with your collection. The link you have to the youtube videos are mostly videos with little pinyin translations. so... until your project is complete..... any suggestions on how i can get my pinyin fix.

    1. Hi Peter.

Thanks for visiting my blog and your comment. How to fix your pinyin? Hmmm.... I can give you one good link, the Pinyin converter. You can copy and paste Chinese character, and this converter show you transliteration.

It is a simple tool designed to help students of Mandarin Chinese. I hope this helps you. :)

    2. Hi Teisuka,

I just checked out the link, and it's really good. Actually, I'm considering putting pinyin of the lyrics in my future videos, do you think it's worth it or something necessary for non-Chinese speakers?

Thanks for sharing the link. -:)

    3. Hello Bao,

Yep, that Pinyin converter is very practical and nice tool. I think it's good idea to put also pinyin on your future videos. For sure, it would be useful for non-Chinese speakers.

But I think it is better to add pinyin only to the video description but not to subtitles. Otherwise, there will be too much stuff on subtitle (three lines), and it takes attention from the visual content of the video... But this is only my opinion. :)

Have a nice rest of the week to you, my friend.

  5. Hi Teisuka,

Here is my attempt at a short poem:

    "Alone with Nature

Even though it's not yet night,
All is quiet, not a soul in sight.

    Such serene nature scenes,
    Evoking memories of sweet dreams."

How do you like it? *~*

    Blessings to you!
